PROGRAMS

Class A

Available in NC and PA

Pertains to vehicles exceeding 26,000 pounds in weight and includes trailers weighing over 10,000 pounds, such as a tractor-trailer. Furthermore, individuals possessing a CDL Class A license are authorized to operate any Class B vehicle as well.

Class B

Available only in NC

CDL Class B vehicles are defined as any vehicle that weighs more than 26,000 Lbs. and has no trailer, or if there is a trailer it must weigh less than 10,000 Lbs. Some examples are a box truck, dump truck, garbage truck, and cement truck, just to name a few.

Class A

Available in NC and PA

Commercial Truck Driver Training

CDL A

Description:
160-hour training course includes 50 hours of classroom/instruction, 50 hours of range/skills training, 60 hours of over the road training (driving/observation)

Training schedule:
Full time classes: Monday to Thursday 7 am – 6 pm
Part time classes: Saturday 7 am-6 pm

Tuition includes:

  • DOT physical.
  • DOT drug screen.
  • Motor vehicle record.
  • Classroom training,    including books and materials.
  • Skills training / range training.
  • Over the road training, including driving and observation.
  • 3-part final CDL Skills test
    CDL Diploma.

Admission requirements:

  • CDL Learner’s permit is not required to start class.
  • $150.00 application fee.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (intrastate) or 21 years of age (interstate).
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residence.
  • Social Security card.
  • US Birth certificate, US passport, naturalization certificate, current immigration documents.
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and DOT drug test prior to start of class.

Where is the program located?

The NC school and practice range are located at 2801 US Highway 301S, Wilson, NC 27893.

The PA office and classroom are located at 1501 Lehigh Street, Suite 203, Allentown PA 18103.  The practice range is located 3.5 miles from the office.

Is A2Z Trucking Academy a certified training provider?

Yes, A2Z Trucking Academy is a licensed training provider and third-party tester certified by the North Carolina Department of Motor vehicles. 

In Pennsylvania the school is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, State Board of Private Licensed Schools.

A2Z Trucking Academy is also registered with the FMCSA as a training provider for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT). 

What is required to start the CDL classes?

We ask that you complete an application in the office and provide your valid driver’s license.  Your social security card, and US birth certificate, passport, or verification of legal presence in the US will also be required.

Do I need a DOT physical and drug screen before applying?

No, once you meet the requirements for admission to A2Z Trucking Academy, we’ll send you for a drug screen and DOT physical.  We’ll provide you with locations for these tests, which are included in your tuition payment. 

How old do I have to be to obtain the CDL license?

You must be 18 years old to obtain your CDL and drive a commercial vehicle within the state (intrastate).  You must be 21 years old to drive state-to-state (interstate), carry hazardous materials, or transport passengers.

When do classes start?

Classes start every Monday in North Carolina.
Classes start twice per month on a Monday in Pennsylvania.

How long is the training?

Full-time classes are held Monday to Thursday, 7 am to 6 pm.  Students typically complete the full-time training in 4 weeks. 

Part-time classes are held on Saturdays, from 7 am to 6 pm.  Students attending Saturday classes will typically complete the training in 4 months.

Can I combine week and weekend schedules?

Yes, A2Z Trucking Academy will make every effort to customize a schedule to accommodate your personal needs.

As a female, am I a good candidate for the training?

Yes! Some of our BEST students are females. As far as job placement, one-third of the nation’s drivers are female.

Do I need my CDL learner’s permit to start the class?

No, we will get you ready to take your CDL permit during the classroom phase of the training.

If I already have my learner’s permit, can I just take the driving phase of training?

No, all students will receive the same training during the classroom portion of our training, regardless of whether they have a learner’s permit or not.  All students are required to complete a minimum of 160 hours of training in our program to graduate.

What can I expect from the truck driving classes?

The classroom portion of the training provides general theory/knowledge. The remainder of the training involves pre-trip inspection, skills at our training range, and over-the-road training.

Are there any out-of-pocket costs?

Our application fee is $150.00.  Tuition includes classes, book and supplies,  DOT physical and drug screen, motor vehicle record and CDL exams.  Your out-of-pocket fees include the learner’s permit/CDL license fee.

When is payment due? Do you offer payment plans?

Payment in full is due at the time of enrollment.  If you can’t pay in full, you can start with the $150 application and arrange a payment plan with the school. 

We can also provide you with information on financing your tuition through third-party institutions.

What if I have never driven a manual transmission?

No problem! Our team of experienced instructors can have you double clutching before you know it.  We have over 20 years of experience. We have hundreds of successful graduates on the road today.double-clutching

Does a criminal record disqualify me from the program?

No – Regardless of your background, you will qualify for the training program if you possess a valid driver’s license. As far as job placement, we work with carriers that will hire ex-offenders.

Will I have to be away from home for months at a time as a truck driver?

No, at A2Z Trucking Academy we partner with a vast array of carriers that offer local, regional and long-haul routes.  These options are considered on a case-by-case basis with the strategy of coming up with the best career path for you.
